UPDATED: Truck Returns From Pickett Fire

Updated 9 a.m. Sept. 2: The UC Davis Fire Department personnel aboard Brush Truck 34 returned to campus Monday (Sept. 1) because of a mechanical issue with the truck, Fire Chief Nate Hartinger said. Four staff members had been deployed aboard the truck to the Pickett Fire in Napa County.

The captain serving as a strike team leader trainee remains deployed to the fire response.

The University of California, Davis, has received accolades for its research, the value for the dollar and the social mobility it offers graduates in three separate rankings published this month.

Forbes named UC Davis to its Top 25 Public Colleges in the nation in rankings released Tuesday (Aug. 26). The magazine noted that UC Davis students graduate with a median of $11,000 in debt — the lowest among the public standouts.

Alison Rader picked up the pink and green towel she had used as a mat, drew a deep breath and smiled. “I’ve been feeling kind of keyed up,” the rising senior said. “Yoga in the morning helps release some of that tension.”

Soon the statistics major was off to class in a fast-paced, six-week course in calculus, but not before Summer Sessions staff, who had organized the yoga class, invited her to the next day’s coffee and donut gathering for students before exams in the first summer session.
